The "Medusa" from 1597–1598 is a painting by the Italian Baroque artist Caravaggio, depicting the mythological Gorgon's decapitated head. Created on a convex shield, it captures the moment of her death with a realistic and intense expression, and surprisingly, includes a self-portrait of Caravaggio's own face as Medusa, a common technique he employed in his work.
