Raphael's The Transfiguration (c. 1516–1520) is his final masterpiece, depicting Christ's divine glory above and his apostles' struggle with a possessed boy below, a contrast illustrating faith's power and human need, housed in the Vatican Museums and considered his spiritual testament, completed by his students after his death.

Key Aspects:
Subject Matter: Combines two Gospel scenes: Christ's glorious transformation (Transfiguration) with Moses and Elijah, and the apostles' inability to heal a demon-possessed youth before Christ's return.
Composition: Divides the canvas into divine (top) and earthly (bottom) realms, using light, shadow, and dramatic gestures to create emotional depth and narrative tension.
Commission: Commissioned by Cardinal Giulio de' Medici (later Pope Clement VII) for Narbonne Cathedral in France, but never reached its destination.
Legacy: Regarded as Raphael's greatest work and spiritual testament, displayed at his deathbed, showcasing influences from Michelangelo and Leonardo.
Medium & Location: An oil on wood panel painting, measuring 405 x 278 cm, located in the Pinacoteca Vaticana (Vatican Museums).
