"The Olive Orchard" (1889) refers to a series of paintings by Vincent van Gogh created while he was at an asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Painted during the final six months of 1889, these works capture his fascination with the gnarled, twisting trunks and evergreen leaves of the trees, which he painted with short, curved brushstrokes to convey movement and energy. The paintings often feature a contrast between the silvery-gray of the olive trees and the vibrant colors of the sky and ground.
